The results of the Impact ranking of Times Higher Education universities have been announced
On June 1, the results of the Times Higher Education University Impact ranking (THE Impact ranking 2023) were published, in which several Latvian universities were named among the world's leading universities, including the Latvian University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LBTU). This year, LBTU is ranked among the "800-1000" world universities that most successfully implement sustainability goals, according to the latest data of The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2023. The ranking evaluates the effectiveness of universities' activities to promote sustainable development in the world, including social, economic and environmental aspects.
THE Impact ranking measures the performance of the world's universities according to the 17 United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals and they include such social and economic development issues as poverty, hunger, health, education, global warming, gender equality, water supply, sanitation, energy, urbanization, nature conservation and social justice. Each university's performance is assessed against at least four of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. The 2023 Impact Ranking is the fifth edition and includes 1,591 universities from 112 countries/regions.
The published 2023 ranking summarizes information on LBTU's performance in achieving six sustainable development goals. LBTU again achieved the highest scores in the 16th goal "Peace and justice", where for the second time a place was obtained in the "201-300" group, the university also maintains a high position in the 15th goal "Life on Earth", where it was ranked in the "301-400" group . On the other hand, in the 11th objective "Sustainable cities and communities", LBTU obtained a place in the group "401 - 600" and in the 17th objective "Partnership for the goals" it obtained a position in the group "601 - 800". Also, LBTU was evaluated in the 3rd objective "Good health and well-being" and in the 4th objective "Quality education", where it ranks "1001+" in the group.
World-known universities such as Western Sydney University in Australia, University of Manchester in Great Britain and Queen's University in Canada occupy leading positions in the Impact rating. The University of Latvia, Riga Stradiņš University, Riga Technical University and the Transport and Telecommunication Institute also meet the quality criteria of the Latvian rating. Our neighbors from Lithuania and Estonia are also represented in the ranking - Kaunas University of Technology, Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, Mykolas Romeris University and Vytautas Magnus University. .
LBTU is one of the leading multidisciplinary science universities in Latvia with specialization in sustainable use of natural resources. Research at the university and its related scientific institutes is carried out in three directions - biosciences, engineering sciences and social sciences. The higher education study programs offered at the university are closely related to research, and are successive from the bachelor's and master's levels to the doctorate.
